5th/reverse counterlever collapsed in 99 10AE
This is probably directed more at Baby Huey than anybody, but by all means if you have some information post it.
So my wife wakes me up before going to work this morning and says she can't get the car in reverse. After I get out in the garage and check it out, I can't find fifth or sixth. So it's apparent that the 5th/reverse counterlever is broken/collapsed. She said it was working fine last night. I haven't checked to see if the 8mm hex bolt on the passenger side is still there or not. Before the question is asked, no I haven't changed the transmission fluid recently How much can I expect this repair to cost? I spoke with our usual mechanic this morning and he said he can't do the repair because it requires some special service tools he doesn't have for the six speed. He said most likely I'd have to call the dealer. He guesstimated about $450-500 just for tear down and inspection at the dealer. What special service tools are required? Thanks in advance!

I would go to a nice transmission specialist. I mean you know it is transmission and that is all that those guys do. If you are in for going that way without looking.
AAMCO or Transking could be ok. I always go with a guy who used to rebuild race cars with a little tiny shop.
