Cooling Fan Stays on

Cooling Fan Stays on
93 Miata
Noticed last evening in my daughters car, the driver side cooling fan remained on well after car had stopped and cooled down. Understanding this fan comes on when the temp is 95c what triggers it to go off?. Afraid of leaving it on and running down the battery I have temporarily disconnected it. Is there a quick fix or something I should look for rather easily to resolve this problem? Not a wrench on this type of car so the simpler the better or course
Thanks

RE: Cooling Fan Stays on
If the ignition was turned off then you either have a short in wiring or a cooling fan relay stuck closed. Under the hood in the passenger rear corner should be the main fuse/relay box. Lift up the cover and inside there should be only two relays. On the under side of cover should be lables as to which one is which. Should be a 'MAIN' and 'COOLING FAN'. The cooling fan relay should be kind of in the center of box. Turn key on and if fan is still running give a good hard tap to the FAN relay and see if fan then turns off. If not then pull relay straight out of relay box. Fan should definitely turn off then.
