My mechanic is about to give up as cam is wearing at same spot it almost wore through before he replaced it. Engine had bad knock, replaced crankshaft and head with bad cam and ran 15 minutes car stopped. Cam is wearing again at same spot? oil is not getting to it? Doesn't make sense as other lobes past it are getting oil? Help..this is getting expensive!!

 

Which area of the camshaft is wearing joepepper? The journal where that cam caps are or the lobe. Journals are lubricated with pressurized oil from pump but journals are only lubed with left over splash oil. If a lobe is wearing then would be looking at a problem with the lifter/valve system.

 

The cam cap...one cam has a hole drilled in the cap above it the other doesn't? Thought drilling a hole in that one too might deliver oil there? Engine seized up fromafter rebuild at same spot from same problem. Bought used motor to replace..motor is from a 1997? Noticed there is a oil cooler unit on it that was capped off on my 1st engine...was his a design difference between 1997 and 1998 or did someone modify it?, and is it the probable reson for lack of oil to the one cam on the cam cap or is it more likely still a blockage?
