alternator question on the 2.5
My fathers 98 millenia 2.5 was making a horrible noise which turned out to be piston valve contact due to a bad timing belt tensioner and the belt skipping some teeth.
So we bought an engine off of ebay which was actually a KL out of a ford probe. Everything went fine for the most part but we left the ford alternator on since it was in better shape and appeared the same. The problem is the mazda alternator plug has three wires and the ford alternator has only two pins. We didn't realize this until the old motor was disposed of.
Does anyone know how we can make this work? I'd rather not buy another alternator at this point.
Thanks,
Tommy.

RE: alternator question on the 2.5
You will need to get wiring diagrams from both cars an see where it goes. It could be an input to the PCM and you will only need to use 2. The 2.5 is a non-interference engine. I have replaced probably 100 broken timing belts with no engine damage. It is too late now but your engine probably had other internal problems anyway from the way it sounds so no biggie.
