CEL- 6 diff codes... help
#11
Did you deal with code 1790? I have that code showing also and it is throttle position sensor open or short....what does that mean? I'm a chic trying to learn as much as I can before I bring it to the shop because I don't need someone lying to me... i want to have an idea of what's going on before hand. The codes I have or 0115-engine coolant temp circuit malfunction, 0431 left bank warm up cat. efficiency below threshold and 1790-throttle position sensor open or short. any ideas?

im a chic too, tryin to learn just like you!!!! i do also have the same code 1790.. so far as of right now i havent addressed that yet. i have to see what codes i'm throwing now since it got worked on some more. i really dont know what to tell you.. kenninn is teh best on here.. the 0115 might be electrical (circuit malfunction) throttle position sensor, i would say replacing this sensor would fix that problem...

ladies-you must remember this. the codes DO NOT mean the part is bad. it means something in that circuit is bad. it could be, and lots of times is, just a bad connection. sometimes, disconnecting/reconnecting fixes it. the actual part could be bad, but there are other things to consider before throwing parts at it. this is where knowledge of the car, and good diagnostic skills come into play. lots of shops do not have this, or if they do(brains), they dont use them. think about a light switch. if you turn on the lites, and nothing happens, is it always the bulb? it could be the switch, it could be a wire connection problem, it could be a fuse/circuit breaker, or even a power outage in the area.
