changing axles
hello everyone,
i need to change the passenger side cv. the boot is ripped an hear clicking when turning. that familiar click we all know. i changed the front brakes yesterday and my suspicions were confirmed.
so to the question. anyone change the cv's in their millenia? i've done this before on a toyota and my brother will help me. i am just curious if there are any nuances that will be helpful with the millenia.
any advice would be nice thank you

RE: changing axles
well, the last one i did was the driver's side. the passenger side has the jack shaft, which also has to come out. some places might sell you the axle with the jack shaft, most will only sell you the outer part. they are easy to separate. i dont remember the passenger side. i do know that both of our cars needed axles at about 60k. so, if one is bad, more than likely the other is, too. there are a couple of ways to get them out, for me, the easiest is to disconnect the strut at the tie rod and the ball joint and swing it out of the way. if you do it this way, you will also have to disconnect the sway bar end links, and move the sway bar out of the way. to remove the nuts off the end links, you will need a 5mm allen to hold the shaft, otherwise, the nuts will just spin. the other way that i know of is the disconnect the strut mount, and lower the strut. i have never done them that way. i recommend that before you get started too far, you should make sure you can pop the axle out of the final drive. some have great difficulty doing this, i have not. if you cannot get it out, you will have to take it to a professional. also, be aware that oreilly auto parts uses the same rebuilder that mazda uses, cardone. they are 60 bucks/exchange, with a lifetime warranty. the 2.3 and the 2.5 are NOT the same. you should make damn sure you got the correct axle before you remove it. takes about an hour with a lift and air tools. the axle should come with a new nut, you have to peen it.

RE: changing axles
thanks Kennin.
i will let you know how it goes. sounds like an allday project if you count the beer and pizza.
Last month i ran new wires from my aftermarket radio to new rear speakers. i am debating about the door speakers.
