Default Is Extended Warranty Worth It?

Just bought a 2002 Millenia S Special Edition, 43,000miles on the odometer. Nice car. The Mazda Dealer is offering a 3 year, 40,000 mile Mazda factory extended warranty covering the powertrain, supercharger and other major components for US$1,500. Is it worth it? Any thoughts, comments and advise would be appreciated. Thanks!

How are you at repairing your car if you need to? Do you plan on driving a lot of miles? Are you going to keep the car for a long time? Do you drive your car hard and really push it to the limit or drive gently? For the most part, an extended warranty will not pay off in the long run.

This question may sound funny, but true. When you are at the dealership, ask the salesman "If you have absolutely no confidence in this vehicle, I will buy your warranty." It will really confuse them!
