Default FRUSTRATED

Can anybody help? I have a 96 milly with a 2.5 motor, I recently had a problem with the car not going over 25 mph. There were no codes andI started changing everything. First the fuel pump then plugs and wires. After getting no results, I took it to the dealer. They replaced the distributor and it rode fine for a yr and a half. The car now shakes when i drive and cuts off while idle. A code popped up saying that the distributor or a loose or open wire was bad which i replaced and it ran for about a week. I just replaced the fuel filter, checked to see if my main relay was bad, disconnected the egr boost wirebut got no good results. The car now shakes really bad or cuts off if I don't step on the gas peddle. Can anyone help. PLEASE

That"s really a tough one, Dmilly, and I wish I could help but it sounds like a "hands-on" only job to me.
Welcome to the site and the club just the same. I hope someone has more of an idea than I do to help you out.

Check to make sure that no oil is getting into the distributor. This is a known issue on the 2.5l engines. Check your Valve Cover gaskets & such to make sure that they are not leaking.

definitely check for oil leaking in the distributor and the valve cover gaskets like mazmart said. i had a similar issue with all your symptoms except my millenia would also try to drive itself. at a stop light, the car would hit the gas by itself, and if i held down the brake to stop it, it would shut off on me and not start. almost wrecked in multiple intersections.

ok thanks, I'll try to try that in the next couple of days. I have the valve cover gaskets and I did replace the back one but not the front. Thanks a bunch

after you replace the front gasket, check your distributor for oil again. clean it, unplug your battery ground cable for about 2-5 minutes to reset your ecu, then reconnect it. see what check engine codes you get then.
