Default Head Bolts...

I am replacing the head gasket on my 2001 2.5 Milly, and I've got a small issue.

The head bolts are not your everyday hex, and they are some sort of 12 point bolt. Thing is, I snapped my craftsman 12 pt. hex 1/2in 12mm trying to get one off.

Are they 12pt Hex? Spline? External Torx?

I need a straight up, "I've done this before" answer. I've gotten unexperienced advice from people who have never even seen a K-series Engine elsewhere, and I'm just looking for a straight answer.

Thanks.

Well rockoe,

thanks for the link, it looks like a pretty helpful site. But, unfortuneatly,
It must be down for maintenence or something, 'cuz only the homepage will pull up.

Ill hafta try it again later.

It's kinda funny, becuase not even the mazda circulated service manual that the dealerships use specifies the bolt type.

So far the guys at the dealership havent answered me when I've asked, but I'm going to try back there again.

I ordered a Spline socket, just in case thats what it is.

I'll let yall know what happens.

Thanks again.
