Lots of fuel
I have a 97 2.5 L and I have done a complete tune up. I notice that I have been
burning alot of fuel lately. Did I miss anything ? Pls help Im avrg. 13 mpg
The tune up includes:
Plugs
wire
rotor and cap
fuel and air filter
oxygen sensors
pc valve
Let me also mention that I had my throttle body cleaned.. can that have something to do with it ?

RE: Lots of fuel
Did the tune-up improve the running at all? Can you smell fuel, when running or after turning off? Is the check engine light on?
Need to have fuel pressure checked, the fuel pressure regulator maybe stuck or there no vacuum to the regulator. Could be a leaking
diaphram in the pressure regulator, usually also have rough idle. You need to find out quickly, before you smelt your catalytic converters.

RE: Lots of fuel
I don’t smell fuel and the car is running smooth.
Now that I think of it, when I pick up the car I notice it was idling high. So I told the mechanic and he adjusted the air intake adjuster
on the throttle body and told me if it was still idling high to close it some more. I did close it till it had a good idle. Can it be that it’s not adjusted right?
The oxy sensor is the right size….
Tks

In order to properly tune this engine, you need to disable the idle speed control and ignition control by grounding the ten pin in the
data link connector #1 under the hood by the wiper motor. With the engine at normal operating temperature, have all electricals
loads off and wait for cooling fan stops. Adjust base idle speed to 650-700 rpm with the air adjusting screw on the throttle body.
Next check #1 spark plug wire, with timing light spec BTDC 9-11 degrees. Recheck idle speed & adjust if required. disconnect the
jumper wire from DLC #1. Sould be good to go. If the air adjusting screw bottoms out when you could have had some one mess
with the throttle stop screw which is set at the factory, lock nutted and painted. Did your mechanic know he had to ground the ten pin
to do the adjustment? If not both your timing and idle adjustments can be out of spec.
