My 1997 S. is leaking oil all over the engine. No oil leaks onto the ground though, just all over the engine. It has always done this, however the lastweek or soits really bad. I got an oil change Nov 20th and have already had to add another quart.

What could be causing this? I have read that these cars are known for this. But Im thinking that with the amount of oil being discharged on the engine I may need a fix.

unfortunately, the "s" was prone to leakage in many areas, and also some engines had valve guide and guide seal problems. if it has high miles ring wear can also cause oil consumption. my best advise would be to take it to a dealer for an inspection and estimate, stay away from independent repair shops
unless they specialize in mazdas. the "s" is very difficult to work on unless the tech is very experienced. i "inherited" both of my millenia's (S) after they were severely molested by some very shoddy shops.
