Talking 2006 MPV with missing Remote Module

My daughter recently purchased a 2006 MPV LX - but it did not come with the remote door lock key fob. On a wild try, I tried to reprogram my wifes 2000 MPV key fob. The door locks when thru the open/close responses to the programming, but it did not work - just as I expected. So we ordered a 2006 Fob thru E-bay but it would not program either. To check things out, I crawled under the steering wheel to check the remote module part # --- and there is not one. The wiring harness is there, but a white dummy plastic piece is plugged into it. I thought all LX's had remote locks, but then I seemed to remember a "stripper" model LX in the last year. Since this van also does not have tinted glass, this must be a stripped down LX.

Since there is no key lock on the passenger side, not having a remote is a pain. I have 2 questions:
1. Would any Mazda model oir year receiver module work or must it be from the 2006 MPV model era?
2. I know that there is a remote engine start module for some Mazdas and it interfaces or replaces the remote door module. Do these units replace the remote receiver module and give her remote door locks? And if so, what brand to I look for?

Thanks
Mike
