Default 93 mx3 gs horrible acceleration

Last month i became the owner of a 1993 mazda mx3 gs. The car had been sitting for two years and when i took it down the road it felt as if the car was driving thru molasses. One newly installed distributor and the car ran much better.

Now the acceleration, which was never great, seems to be falling off. I feel more like im driving a 3 cyl car not a 6. When entering the highway i have to stand on the pedal pinning it to teh floor and im still getting passed by pintos..its pissing me off now...lol. I had a v6 accord last year and when you hit the gas that car moved and I believe these two cars are close in weight so there is definately a problem here. I would really love to be able to drive this car at a level that is should be performing at, especailly with gas dropping under 3.

Im hoping this is a common issue with an inexpensive answer. If anyone could give me some options to try id greatly apprecitate it.

Patiently waiting, heck im moving so slow might as well...hehe

If compression, timing, and fuel delivery all check out, look atyour brake calipers. I've had the caliper pistons stick, particularly on cars that have been sitting for a while. It's worth checking out and fairly cheap to fix. Frankly, on a 93 I would replace them anyway. Don't try to repair them, just get rid of them and put on a set of rebuilts or new if you have the coin.

One other possibility........If your driving an automatic, have somebody look at it. There are several things that could go wrong with it that would cause the symptoms you describe.
