beat up 90 MX6
I am driving my sister's 1990 MX6. It has been hit on the passengers side a couple times. I took the car to work and found out the CV shaft boot was shot. While driving the car jerks pretty bad in 1st and 2nd gear. Im not sure if its the clutch or in need of a major tune up. With all this said...i was wonderin if it is worth tryin to fix up or use the engine at least. I love the power from the little 2.2. I was also wondering if i would be able to put the engine in a 4 dr coupe GEO.

Sounds like this car is pretty bad off. Kinda hard to give an opinion about this car without seeing it. It would be next to impossible to put the engine in a Geo. There were several manufacturers that used the Geo brand by GM...examples are: Metro and Sprint were a Suzuki, Prizm is a Toyota, older models like the Spectrum were an Isuzu. If you had something like a Ford Probe, it might work.

Check the black air intake boot between the air flow meter and throttle body for a large split. Is common for it to split open and idle ok but when you go to accelerate the engine torques and opens the split up causing the symptom you describe with jerking in first and second on take off. .

RE: beat up 90 MX6
If you plan on keeping the car (or your sis), it would be a good thing to replace that cv axle. when the boots get screwed up, dirt and other junk gets in there and causes part failure. if you think the part is fine, you can clean it up well inside (under the boot), repack it, and replace the boot. Best thing would be to just replace the part though.

RE: beat up 90 MX6
Well with that all said...the car isnt a show car. The body isnt worth keeping and fixing up. I however would like to fix up the engine, maybe swap a body for it. Im not too fond of the mx6 body styles...any suggestion for a better looking mazda that isnt too expensive??

RE: beat up 90 MX6
1st gen probe gt uses the same f2t out of the first gen mx6 but is but ugly even compared to the 1st gen mx6 unless u were 2 kit it, y not buy another 1st gen mx6 keep that as a parts car pull the motor build it. if u keep the car or get another go to mx6.com and u can buy a chip off them that will up ur boost to 15 psi, big difference over stock and if u kept ur sises theres an extra head motor tranny get the turbo rebuilt get the ecu chipped, put them in ur car, go to the wreckers get a volvo 740 or 850 intercooler-big intercoolers. the first gens are torquey as shi-, with a rebuilt turbo bigger exhaust wheel ud get a lot more top end than u have now (ud have a extra turbo just send it in to corksport or some shop around u. another cheap reliable mazda would be a first gen rx7 (not the nicest lookin but they get a lot of respect from cops and others who would rater see a little rotary motor than be a dick and harass u. the rx is lighter than the 2nd gen, racing beat header, exhaust, coils, wires, carb and a port prefrebly bigger than a street port and ud be rippin everything, stock lsd, and be burying the tach at 8000 every gear and pullin harder and harder and harder. or buy a 94 gs mx3(nicer interior, dash) with a bad motor for like 500 go to probetalk or a wreck yard get a 626 mx6 or probe 2.5l v6 with good compression ecu and vaf for like 4-500 install is cheap as its just a re and re get a stage 2 clutch and some breating mods and ud be suprisin lots of ppl who would make stupid comments (is that the smallest six in the world) which it isnt sso shut them up, and ull be able to back up what u say especially with klze cams klze intake manifold, bored throttle body, pheno spacers high flow cat, intake headers and megasquirt and ud be the happiest person ever with ur little car
