Ended up beingthe coils + bad ignition wires. Car no longer sounds like a lawn mower and runs much better.

Still getting a CEL though. Diagnostic kicked out a PO-421 reading, low cat efficiency. I'm having a hard time finding a pre-cat that I can order online for the Protege ES 2.0L. Can the CEL problem possibly be resolved if I just get a header? I was looking at this...

Looks like I'm jumping on this bus!! This just started happening to me about a week ago. I see this post is quite dated but there was no outcome posted...would love to hear the result of your visit to the dealer. Hate having to fork over the money if I can tackle this on my own. HURRY!!
