94 Mazda Protege Suspension Issues
I have 94 Mazda Protege DX....rear suspension has become non-existant....big time lean in the back and passenger wheel actually touches wheel well/car body. So it isn't drivable any longer
I have known it needed shocks/struts for several months now but didn't repair them because I didn't think the prices I was quoted ($900-$2100) for repair were justified by the value of the car. I was still able to drive the car so I decided to leave it and consider it "cosmetic."
Car has lots of new parts ie radiator/thermostat/muffler/brakes within past 18 months or so, 130k miles, I would call it in "fair" condition, light rust some cosmetic issues but mechanically very sound. I have driven this in -20 to 120 weather and never had any problems.
So long story short what I have 3 questions here:
1. Is there any sort of halfway or temporary repair I could make to keep driving it?
2. what would you do in my shoes? repair, or sell as is?
3. what is a fair price for the work...I know $2100 is ridiculous. What is a fair labor charge?
any other words of wisdom you may have are also appreciated. Thanks in advance
