95 Protege LX 1.5L timing marks?
I have a 95 Protege LX 1.5L and I am trying to determine if the timing is set right after some recent work was done. The Haynes manual shows a picture of the crank pulley with the timing mark pointer next to it but for the life of me I can't find anything of the sort. I am told I have to short out the TEN and GND terminals but I don't have a clue on where I should be aiming the timing light. Anybody out there have a similar experience?....... Anybody?
Thanks,
Doug

RE: 95 Protege LX 1.5L timing marks?
Here is a pic of the timing marks I have. First thing is to rotate the engine by hand to locate the timing mark on the crank pulley. Next, use a white crayon or chalk or anything clearly visible to mark the notch in the crank pulley to see under the timing light. Then short TEN and GND together. Look at the engine from the passenger side towards the crank pulley on the front side of it and you will see the timing marks located on the timing belt cover. Most likely will have to clean to see the marks as they get covered with crud. Once clean and the engine is running shine the light toward the mark and you will see the mark you made in the strobe. Line that mark up with 10 deg BTDC and you are set.
I would think everything else should be covered in your manual.

Found it! Thanks. Boy was that buried...... Anyway my hunch was correct. The dealer replaced the timing belt but they adjusted the timing incorrectly which was the cause of my pinging. Reset it and now the pinging is gone.
