ABS Light - Does this sound right?
Hi,
I have 2003 Protege5 and the ABS light and Brake light has been staying on. I brought it to my mechanic and he says that the ABS motor is bad and will cost anywhere from 1200 to 2800 to replace. Does this sound right?
Thanks!

sounds like it's a little high. the main source of this problem is the computer. the computer usually runs about 500-1500 and you can do this work yourself with very little know how.
the second source of this is bad brake jobs. if you pry back the calipers without opening the bleeders, you push the pressure back into the abs sensors and it will blow them. you might be able to blame this on whoever did your brake jobs and get it fixed by them.

I'm a litte confused. stated in a reply

aplying reverseforce on the Caliper piston is a natural accuance in braking. otherwise your brake padswould always be applying force on the rotor.
I have been working on cars&trucks for over 20 yearsand have taken collage courses on auto brake repair. Thats something new to me. I also dont dout that you could cause damage by forcing anything but appling reverse pressure on a caliper rotor without opening the bleeder, if done properly will not cause damage to the ABS system
