basic mods
Hey guys i recently purchased a 99 mazda protege for a daily driver, its the 1.6 with a 5 speed gear box. now i know its not going to be fast but its ungodly slow, what can i do to wake it up a bit? (intake, exhaust exc) im not looking to spend loads of money because its just a beater. but anything to gain like 15 so hp would be great. thanks in advance

RE: basic mods
i have a 2000 1.6 and always thought it had potential. after an injen intake andsome modification to the exhaust (2.5" muffler and had the resonator removed and a straight pipe put in its place) and i thought it was a different car. its loud not buzzy and at full throttle this thing roars. the intake i got from ebay for $99 and the exhaust came out to like $160 (120 for muffler 40 to put the straight pipe in) definitely worth it. just ask the guy in the 93 prelude i beat after these mods

RE: basic mods
I just got my 99 1.6 auto. I've been looking all over for a forum that mods this 1.6L. Everything in the car is fantastic. The engine as just over 90k on it and it runs great. It's just slow and lacks that passing power i want.
Any other forums out there thats based on this model?

RE: basic mods
i havent found really any forums dedicated to the 1.6 model alot of them seem to focus on the bigger engines. but i found alot of parts for the 1.6. the only thing i havent found that i really want are cams for it. on srmotorsports.com u can find cam gears and pulley setsfor the 1.6. its a good engine which is why i keepin it the 1.6. even though mine is an auto too i can still beat some civics, a 1st gen eclipse and a 93 prelude just to name a few.
