My 2000 Protege is losing power whe accelerating. Code P0302 is present on scantool. Bad coil pack? Ideas? Thanks.

P0302 is giving you a definite sign that you have a missfire occuring at #2 cylinder which would cause loss of power on acceleration. Coil pack could be a problem but if the pack is failing it will often give you a #4 cylinder fault as it is also providing the spark for that cylinder. Pull the spark plug out and see if you have a black line traced into the outer ceramic area of the plug. This is a carbon track that is allowing spark energy to ground out on the cylinder head instead of taking the hard path of jumping the plug gap of the plug. If there is a black line running down the outer ceramic plug area then that line is also burned into the plug boot and both should be replaced if that is the case. Plug boot is available separate from the coil pack if this is what you are finding.
