Gas filling problem

Gas filling problem
New member, My wifes 2000 Prolege with 112000 miles has started allowing her to fill up at a very slow pump delivery speed. Its gotten to the point that its take about 10 minutesto get about three gallons of gas in the tank. To fill when empty we need about half hr. Anybody ever have same problem or knows what might be wrong? Thanks for any help. Dickl

RE: Gas filling problem
i have the same problem with my not a mazda. all that i do with it is hold the stem of the filler out of the tank a little, just enough to where it lets me fill faster. i don't really know what the problem is, but mine got this way when they introduced the "environmentally friendly" nozzles and it takes a long time to fill now. someone told me that it might just be vapor buildup in the tank since the gas will expand when it is tossed around in the tank, and if i waited about ten minutes from when i stopped to when i filled, it wouldn't do this. i don't have the kind of time to spend ten minutes at the gas station unless i'm topping off.

RE: Gas filling problem
You may have a evap canister drain cut valve stuck closed or a clogged charcoal canister as well. The displaced air when filling the tank with fuel should be allowed to escape thru these two emission parts.

RE: Gas filling problem
I guess I should have given more detail earlier. No matter how I hold the nozzle in the tank and just barleysqueese the triger, the most it will take at one time without clicking off is about 20 to 30 cents worth at a time. and sometimes then the gas will come shooting back out the tank like it's completely plugged, which it is not, because sometimes it will fill as it should normally. Thanks - Dick

RE: Gas filling problem
There are really two separate things that could be causing this to happed rrfostersr. Pressure in the tank not being allowed to ventdue to the evaporative emission components I mentioned earlier or the non-return valve in the filler neck opening getting stuck closed. Think I would be going for the non-return valve with the more in depth description you gave of only filling in 20-30 cents and then shooting back out at you. this valve is located at the bottom of the metal portion of the filler pipe just before it attaches to the flexible rubber portion of the filler at the tank. Is available as a separte service part from dealer for just a little over $5 so would be an excellent place to start.

RE: Gas filling problem
I sure will Dick. OE part number for the non-return valve is GD7A-42-270C.
Here is a little diagrams of the valve, Could not locate a decent location index[:@]
