Help with mazda protege 1997
Hi to all... i have a mazda protege 1997 automatic.. the thing is im not quite sure what is the problem... cause the problem just came up when i was driving.. when i step on the accel.. its like the car is not combusting well.. so i closed down the airconditioning so the engine will not have a hard time running then i head home immediately.. so i checked the spark plugs, hightension wires, and distributor. everything is ok.. but when i put a load like headlights, shifting D or R, and turning on the aircon.. the idle would go down and up then later on the engine will shut down.. so i advance the distributor and adjust the throtle position sensor. It compensated somehow.. and i was able to get a good IDLE when i shift D or N. but if i put another load like the headlight and aircon.. the IDLING would play again.. it goes up to 100rpm to 900rpm. but the engine will not turn off.. of course.. everything was set in advance.. so it will hold.. i took it on an another mechanic.. he said it was the IDLE AIR INTAKE VALVE that was broken and it cost a lot.. so i want to know if is it really possible that this thing is really broken??? cause ive read some cases here which is closely related to my problem.. like the EGR, that it may just have a clog that needs cleaning and etc.. could please give me some advice.. and my radiator has a minor leak i dont know if it is connected.. thanks in advance for the advice

done it.. and my battery works well... during no load it runs to 13 volt and when i put on the headlight and aircon it would go down to 12 volt. But then the engine would vibrate on and off.. its really abnormal..

i have never owned a car that had the IAC valve go out. i would shop the salvage yards and see what you can find. it should be cheap there and the IAC swaps out in just a few minutes with minimal tools. it is very easy to clean the EGR also. it just connects, by a tube, to the exhaust manifold. take a tooth brush and some brake cleaner and scrub it out.
