I'm not sure but it being a diesel I would think (guess) one.
A catalytic converter is distinguishable from a muffler usually because of it's placement in the system (near the manifold outlet,) and because of its heat shielding. Because they are designed to run very hot, they always have an outer skin of metal designed to act as a heat shield.
