I hope that someone can help to find out what wrong with my Mazda Protégé 2000 (1.8, 80,000 miles). So I went to get some cigarettes and everything was fine (except on the way to a gas station the car strangely lunged ones and that’s it), but right before pulling in into garage it died, and would not start again. The lights where on and everything seems to be fine with the exception of the check engine light appears to be on, now its just cranks but wont start. I have replaced the fuel pump, checked for a spark and I also checked if the timing belt had not broken or not. The belt seems to be fine (it was replaced 10,000 miles ago), but it felt like it was to loose, although I don’t know how it’s supposed to be in the first place. The fuel pump seems to be working fine, I also sprayed some starting fuel into the throttle and it would not start the car ether. In addition I cheeked all of the fuses, and swapped all of the relays see if it will start but it did not helped. If there is anything anyone can suggest to me what I should check also I would really appreciate. Thank you very much! P>S I did a tune up about a two month ago!

alternator? maybe, i don't think the car would crank if the alternator wasn't working just check the voltage on your battery with a meter it should read about 12.4 with the car turned off. other than that it could be a computer issue. you could allways tryunplugging the battery for an hour to reset your computer and plugit back in and see if it starts.sorry i can't help you out anymore.

You stated the your check engine light was on, I would first scan the computer with a scan tool (Autozone does it free) and find out what codes are stored and correct them. You also mentioned that you checked the timing belt and it wasn't broken but felt loose, I don't know without looking at it but if it's to loose you chould have jumped timing.
