Default P0170 and MAF question

I have a 98 Protégé 1.5L that is tripping a P0170 Fuel Trim Code. The dealer monitored the O2 readings and it show it was running lean. They wanted to replace the fuel pump ($500) without running any other test. They wouldn’t even check the fuel pressure. So I said no and replaced the fuel pump myself. I cleared the codes and after two trips it triped the code again. Also, the first time I ran the motor after clearing the code it ran fine until it reached operating temperature. Then when I pushed the gas pedal down the engine would die. This leads me to suspect the MAF. I’ve had this problem before on older Toyota’s. Does anyone know the Ohm and Voltage readings for the MAF so I can test it?

Thanks

How old is the fuel filter?? Change that and see if gets better. It's cheap money.

I’ve replaced the fuel filter less than a year ago. I have also cleaned out the EGR passages and installed a new EGR Valve. That corrected the EGR code. I will be installing new plugs this weekend. The wires have been changed as some point, but I do not know when. The Rotor and Cap look good. I also checked for vac leaks and did not find any.

Yesterday I started the car and the light was off and has stayed off. However, I still get a very bad hesitation around 3,200 RPM’s.
