Default protege wont turn over after vc replacement

hey guys this is my 2nd post on this forum, so i have a 99 auto protege 180 kms, my mechanic told me i had a leaky vc gasket, so i got one yesterday for 40 bucks and replaced it my self using a how to from this site. i put everything back in order, checked the spark plugs, changed the plug wires, put a new pcv valve. When i went to crank it it sparked and it was shaking until it died maybe like 15 seconds. so i looked around and checked out all the wire harness, now it doesnt even wanna turn over, it just trys to start and it soundss awful. any suggestions before i bring out the sledgehammer?

You didn't put something back where it belongs. Just check everything real well.

I does sound like your firing order is messed up as Kevinkpk said, check to make sure all your wires go to the correct cylinders and try to start again.

That means your car needs to go to detox.
