ran fine. cranks no start PLEASE HELP
I just bought the car ran perfert. Then the day i bought is cranks over no start... i have spark plugs are blk and wet smell of gas . New distribotor , i have fuel , new fuel pump and filter and new fuel relay.and i have combustion... i take the relay out and crank on it, because it seems to be flooding..
Then i put it back in and the very first start it will wanna run. Then after that nothing it with just turn over ...please help

ATTN ALL NEWBIES:
Year and mileage of car is a must when posting as well as engine type, size. Is it a diesel? Is it carbureted? Automatic? Don't forget to do this in future as well as all service history: when was last time plugs changed, ign coils changed, throttle body cleaned, pcv valve changed?.
Your post is incomplete and will lead to poor responses. The more background information we have, the better the response.

Thang: you are confusing me.
You say you have combustion but it does not run. Well, if you have combustion it runs! that's why it's called internal combustion engine.
Then there is that word "perfert". I couldn't find it in the dictionary. There is a similar one with a "v" in it, but it wouldn't make sense in this context .
Please read the "unofficial user's guide". It's a sticky thread in the protege forum.
My guess is that the fuel pressure regulator is busted and dumps fuel in the intake manifold. It is only a guess. It is also possible that you mixed up the spark plug wires, messing up the firing order.
Good luck for now.

Hard to start/long crank/erratic start/erratic crank
DESCRIPTION
• Starter cranks engine at normal speed but engine requires excessive cranking time before start.
• Battery is in normal condition.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
• Spark leakage from high-tension leads
• Vacuum leakage
• Poor fuel quality
• Starting system malfunction
• Spark plug malfunction
• Air leakage from intake-air system
• Erratic signal from CKP sensor
• Erratic signal from CMP sensor
• Air cleaner restriction
• IAC valve malfunction
• PCV valve malfunction
• Inadequate fuel pressure
• Purge solenoid valve malfunction
• MAF sensor contamination
• Restriction in exhaust system
• EGR valve malfunction
• Pressure regulator control (PRC) system malfunction

Juanky - Please be 100% sure of yourself before giving an answer to a guy who is lost. Neither the TPS nor the MAF will create the issue this member is experiencing. Not trying to be a hateful bastard here but you are just plain guessing. The TPS and MAF sensor issues will give poor mileage, performance issues, and a bad MAF can even cause stalling. But it will never cause gas soaked wet spark plugs and a no-start condition.

Mazdathang - This thread is very old - 2014 so I am sure by this time, your issue has been solved. But others will read this with similar problems so I write for them. Lets get started.
First, we are talking about a crank, no start issue. So what is crank, no start. Crank or cranking means the battery has charge and the starter works. When you turn the key (or hit the start button) the starter engages and spins the engine over making a sound like rahr-rhar-rhar-rhar. People have lots of terms for this. The best and most accurate - it cranks. This is not a dead battery or a non working starter or starter solenoid - because it cranks. But it wont start - wont fire - wont "catch", I heard a woman once say. Why not?
An engine needs 3 things to start - Oxygen (or simply air), fuel, and a source of ignition. Just like starting a campfire - you got oxygen (air), so you need wood (fuel) and matches (ignition source). You car has air, so it needs fuel (gasoline - diesels are a different story), and spark to the spark plugs. You always have air. So you are missing fuel or spark. How do you find out which is missing.
Check the easiest thing first. So - are you getting fuel. This is the easiest way to check. Open the air cleaner box - thats where your air filter is. Take a spay can of something very combustible - carburetor cleaner, or starting fluid, or electrical contact cleaner. I use carb cleaner cuz I always got it on hand. Brake cleaner prolly works too. Spray a 2 to 3 second shot into the airbox directed at the snorkel tube that goes to the intake. Immediately crank the engine. If it starts briefly, then stops - you figured out it is not getting fuel. You just added fuel and it started thus it was not getting fuel previously. Aight? Now you gotta figure out why not getting fuel. Bad fuel pump? Bad fuel filter? Bad fuel regulator? Bad fuel system fuse or relay?
If adding fuel does nothing - then it was probably already getting fuel, so now you need to check for spark. How can you easily determine if you are getting spark? You can pull a spark plug wire (correctly called an ignition cable) off one of the spark plugs. Then stick a screwdriver into the ignition cable boot, then hold that screwdriver shaft near to but not touching some nearby metal on the engine. The valve cover is nearby so you can use it. Now have your buddy crank the engine while you watch and listen. You should see a spark jump from the screwdriver shaft to the valve cover. You have to hold it pretty close to your metal ground. At the same time you should hear it "snap". If you don't, you don't have spark (no ignition source). Why no spark? One culprit could be the camshaft position sensor. Another could be crankshaft position sensor. Could be ignition fuse.
There you are kids! With no fancy tools or being a complete motorhead - you can determine what is missing and why it wont start. Even if you now have to take it to the shop - you can talk smart and tell the guy, "it cranks and it will start if I feed it a little carb cleaner, but it dies right away so not getting fuel". He will know you are not a complete clown and you probably shaved $1000 off your bill.
All the best.
