Rattling noise at 2500rpm
Hey Guys,
I have a 2002 Prot5 and I notice that when the engine is at 2500rpm there is a tinny, rattling noise. It happens regardless of whether I'm in gear or in neutral. I've heard that it could be a loose heat shield, exhaust clip, timing belt..
I'm just wondering if any of you have had this same problem and how you fixed it.
Thanks!

i had a rattle that was most noticable aroung 2500 rpm. got faster or slower with rpms. hard to notice over an after market exaust. turned out to be a cracked bearing. had to replace the eingen.if you have a loud exaust get it checked. try having a friend rev it while you listen under the hood for the location of the rattle.

I've got an '02 Protege 5 too, and I had the same problem last fall; the heat shield had rusted around the bolt and come loose. I tried to get the bolt out so I could put a large washer on it but just ended up breaking the head off because it was so badly rusted. I used steel wire to fix the problem for now though.
