Hi all,
My son's 97 Protege has an AM/FM Cassette radio with detachable faceplate. There's no CD player yet it has a CD button and the "compact disk" logo. It also is not mentioned or pictured in the owners manual although reference is made to "CD equipped radios". Was there a remote CD deck/changer option for these? If so, any idea where I could pick up the remote deck?

The way the system works is you could either get a Built in tape deck and a remote CD, or a built in CD with a remote tape, or just an AM/FM tape or Built in AM/FM CD. The CD players are made by Panasonic. I may have one in my shop. If you are interested, email me and I will send Pix..

 

I'd say he has the AM/FM Tape, except for the CD logos and button, so it may be the built in tape with CD option but with the CD section missing. There's a storage caddy below the climate controls that may have been the optional location for the remote CD. You should already have my email from the "97 Protege intermittently dies" thread (you'd offered to scan the fuel filter replacement instructions); I will also try to snap a picture of his current radio and post it to help figure this out.
