for the best ride possible, you need to get airbags. if you don't have the money for that, my personal favorite is tokiko shocks wrapped in tein springs. it makes the ridea little more rigid, but a more rigid ride makes you take the bumps all at once and then it's over. with a softer ride, your car tends to float after you hit bumps. the tokiko/tein setup is kind of pricy, but the quality is great. if you have about three grand to drop, i can hook you up with a guy that will get you one of the most complete kits that you can find. airbags are pricy, but they are worth it.

on a thousand dollar budget, i would say that a full tokiko setup would be cheap and affordable. you wouldn't be able to opt for the tein springs, but tokiko makes a good spring too.
