Well paulfeyer not sure what I can do at this point to help outisde of giving some directions. First thing to do is let know if you have a check engine light or HOLD light on or flashing. That would tell us if we are having some problems that are recorded by the engine computer. If engine or HOLD light is on then getting a code check from some local parts store that is able to scan OBDII codes would be the first step. Many parts stores will do this check at no cost to you. Pay no attention to what they will try to diagnose but just get the code # that is retrieved. ie P1744. If no dash warning lights are on then would suggest to take to a good, reliable transmission shop and get a better idea about what is going on and why the transmission will not shift up and even seems to stay in the same gear and not shift at all. A transmission shop should be able to give you a diagnosis of the problem for minimal price as they will hope that you will have it fixed by them. Would most definitely go with having checked at a shop that has a good reputation for honest business and even then a second or even third opinion is not a bad idea. Protege transmissions have been fairly reliable thus far so is possible that could be something else but does not sound very promising from your description of what it drives like. At worst it could be an internal trans failure the could be fixed or maybe even replaced with a new or good used transmission. At best it might just be a trans fluid temperature sensor malfunction that could be replaced without major repairs needed at all.
