Default trunk latch; engine belts...

how do u replace the cable to the inside trunk latch? i cant open the trunk from inside anymore...i believe the latch cable is broken. can someone give me directions on how to change it??

Also, i changed the belts on my car, but i'm not sure on how tight/loose they should be...can someone please help on this too??

All help greatly apprieciated...

I own a '98 Protege...

one inch total deflection at the point midway between alt and idler pulley. Not sure 2.0 L in 2001 Protege is same as "98 Protege, so cannot tell how to tighten belt, but it is VERY IMPORTANT that the pulleys are in line.
