Default 1988 Convertable $4950 and 33,000 miles

Guys, I just drove a 1988 convertable with only 33,000 miles. It is a one owner car with the origional tires. The body is in great shape with no scratches or dents. The interior is innice condition with the exception of the driver seat left side support which shows significant wear ( It looks as if it just got worn down as you would rub against this everytime you got in and out of the car, which was the same as my old Acura, so this does not bother me ). The car has been garaged.

The only problem the guy told me was the motor for the convertable top is not that strong. The top goes down eaisly, but it is slow coming up, and he told me he usually has to help it a little by slightly pulling up on it as it comes up.

I checked kelly blue book, and it suggested the price was right on based on the condition of the car.

I am seriously considering this car. I will have itinspected by mazda mechanic who will do a compression test first, and then based on that will decide if it is worth a full blown inspection.

The owner said he lost his job, and is moving to another state and does not have the room for it. This was a 2nd car for him.

Is there anything else I should be concerned about. Your thoughts, no matter what they may be, will be greatly appreciated.

If it is the condition that you are saying it is, I'd jump all over that. A motor for the top should be easy to find at a good price. Just need to find out which motor is acting up.

Well guys, I had the RX-7 checked out by a Mazda specialist service center. They test drove the car, checked the compression, and the mechanic said if I did not buy this car he would. They were amazed at the condition it was in. I took it to get new tires, because it still had the original tires on it, and even the guys at the tire place were amazed at how nice the car was.

And it truly isfun to drive.

Pictures to follow soon.

Yeah, Larry!! What happened in the end? Let us know.

Y'know the motor may be weak, but it might just be something simple like something needs to be lubricated. Or if it is weak, lubricating the moving parts might help.

the electronics on the FC's are just generally weak. they don't ever break, only wear down to nothing over time. you could have the motor re-turned (rewound, rebuilt, whatever you want to call it) for pretty cheap if you could find someone to do it.

I was just about to mention lol.
Tires have sort of an expiry date. I think it was mentionned on a TV show not too long ago.
5 years tops or something like that.

The rubber is not specified to last that long, and loses its grip.

Nice find.
We want pictures!

Well, it just seemed the the top needed to be raised and lowered a few times to get the kinks worked out. It now raises and lowers without any problems.

This is one fun car to drive.
