Default 84' RX-7 doesn't idle

I have an 84' Rx-7 12A engine and I have a problem. Last summer I was in an accident. I hit a guard rail and smashed in the front and back driver’s side corners. I don't know if the two are related but later that summer it became harder to start up then the idle was higher than normal (a little over 1K) then it stopped idling all together. It runs fine once the pedal is applied but won't idle on its own now.

My uncle is a mechanic and looked it over and can't figure it out. He heard that it could be one of the vacuum things in the carb and that if you put your finger over it and it will idle then that’s it but we tried all of them and they made no diff. Also the idle fuel control screw has been tampered with, it usually has a cover over it but that’s been broken off. (I bought the car 2 years ago). I thought also that maybe rust is clogging the fuel filter since i hit on the fuel door side and it bent in the fuel door or that there is a loss of vacuum in the fuel tank. I also heard it could be an idle air control.

Is any of this on the right track? If someone has experienced this and could point me in the right direction it would probably save me lots of money! Thanks for the help!

I have an 84 RX7 and the idleing has 2 do with air fuel mixture and the throttle position sensor try adjusting your throttle sensor thats what i did and u mite also check your voltage output primary and secondary ignition coils i had 2 replace my coils, injectors, battery, fuel pump, and filter just 2 get mine going again and the throttle position sensor wasn't set right so i readjusted it

On the passenger side of the engine below the firewall is a large vacuum hose, they split quite often and since it is a large intake vacuum hose it will not idle.
