RE: general rx7 knowledge...
Few things to keep in mind; hard starting both cold & hot, weak engine. How much & how long does it smoke after starting, worn oil
seals if blue smoke. White smoke with biter/sweet smell, internal coolant leak. Compression tests to get the most accurate results
have a dealer test. You can use a conventional tester, but have to remove the schrader valve from the end of hose. It takes two
one cranking and one watching the gauge. You need a cranking rpm of at least 250, then you want all the reading to be very close.
The dealer has a special tester with a ditigal display for rpm and each side of the rotor. Readings in the 7 range are good.
Engine noises you should have any. Avoid automatics, not much performance. Proper cooling is another issue, especially with
third generation rx's. One last note, as alway when buying used, take it to a mechanic you know or service center you do business
with and have the car up on hoist. There some real crappy rebuilders out and about. It's worth 20-25 bucks to have the underside
inspected, that includes dealers cars.
