Default 99 miata for an RX8!!!

Hello all
I just traded in a miata for a 8 yessssssss.
I was just wondering...
Is it normal for the engine to turn for a few seconds before the car starts (or is this a sign that its beginning to flood)?
Sometimes when i shift to 1st gear from neutralthere is a small thud, is that normal?
Im not sure what oil is in the car right now(synthetic or non), is it ok to do refills with non-syn or should i just do a full oil change with the non-syn?
What rpm do u guys normally shift at for daily driving?
Probably dumb questions but if anyone has time I appreciate it.
Thank guys.

congrats.....what year??? everything i've been told is don't pump the engine before starting... older model RX8's had a problem with flooding engines and some were recalled for engine changes., the thud in shifting would bother me especially if the RX8 was used hard or has a lot of miles on it, if it's new take it back to the dealer insist they check it out, i don't ever see unexpected noises as ever being "normal." oil changes call for 5-20 non-syn in my 07 model. again iv'e seen arguments for and against using synth. or even heavier weight oils. my owners manual calls for not using either heavier oil or synths, or gas additives due to the way the oil both lubes and seals. i have an automatic but my normal shifting is at about 2000 rpms to get into a high gear asap for better mileage.... except when im on a good road and feeling fine then i do the 4/6000 rpm thing, it's made to do 9000 but i'm chicken to try it out that high yet, since iv'e still only got less than 1000 miles on it, i suppose in normal driving, not boy racer, 3000rpm isnt much stress and does the job. everybodys got a different opinion on these things and everyone drives differently. but to repeat IMO, new or used the "thud" just can't be good, almost like a chipped gear cog or mis-match.

Thx for the reply maxx.
It's a 04 with about 24,000 miles on it. Ive been shifting at 4-5000 rpms and was shifting at 3000 rpm on the miata.
Im gonna have to get the thud checked out at the dealer. Thx for the heads up.
So far im having a good time with the car and finding excuses to drive it lol. But this thing isgas GUZZLER man.
