Default Ideling Rough (Should it be ?) Please assist !

Hi

My 2004 RX8 is idling inconsistent , it seems to get worse when the car is on a incline.

When you listen at the Exhausts you get kind of a miss pop sound ...sometimes you do see it on the Rev counter also.

Here 's my question :

Is this normal for a rotary engine ?

Should there be the occasional pop sound from the exhaust ?

Why does the incline have a effect on it ?

Idling should be as smooth as a normal cylinder car , correct ?

Any feedback from owners would be highly appreciated !

Thanks

I'm no mechanic but... it's not normal. could be a number of things, dirty plugs, broken plug wire...fouled fuel system lines...timing...dirty (cheap no name 87 oct.) fuel ...even a bad catalytic converter or oxygen sensor... How easily does it start up when cold or restart when hot? As for the "incline" part, i can't think of anything other than fuel level that is affected by an incline...(gravity feed went out with the model T) so in tank fuel pump maybe (?), or in tank fuel filter? If it were me i'd look for the nearest Mazda dealer, since it sounds like any number of things need to be eliminated here. Sorry you aren't getting more answers...i know some guys here claim to be "tuners" or "insiders"..... so where are all you shade tree mechanics?

I'm a service consultant from mazda, is it manuel or automatic, rough idle could come form brokn motor
mounts. with your exhaust popping sounds like possible catalytic converter failure, has your recall been performed due you have all updated parts, leading spark plugs, battery, or starter. when was your last air fuel induction service. . . all could be factors get back to me
