03 Mazda Tribute oil pan
Look out for those of you with v6 Tributes. Ford's poor design with the oil pan can cost you a small fortune. Went in for my oil change at the mazda dealer where I purchased the the car and they stripped the oil pan's threads at the plug. This is because of an aluminum oil pan and a steel plug. They said it was a wear issue and wanted me to pay $550 for a new oil pan. Refused and said it is because their techs overtightened the plug. After much back and forth about the blame and stating that I would not pay for the repair we agreed on me paying the employee price for labor and them absorbing the rest of the repair cost. The Mazda corperate said that this a dealer issue and had no imput on the problem. The warranty company said this is a faulty repair issue and would not cover it. Total cost was $125 and I got a new CX-5 for the day while the repair was being made. Do not let them bully you into paying for the replacement.

Why should you? They are the ones that stripped it. You shouldn't of paid the $125 even. But the pans are known for gasket leaks so eventually you would of had to had that fixed anyway. I just had my pan fixed, new gasket. I was charged $270 just labor and new gasket but I went to the Ford dealer since it's basicly a Ford, not a Mazda.

Got some problem too. Oil Pan leaking, slowly, but leaking. So far, so good. No need to repair as I drive a lot and I won't run of oil before i have to change it. However, I'm getting ready for the bad news with each oil change I make..
