Default 2001 Mazda Tribute V6 Engine RPM drop

My mechanic recently tuned up my tribute for prevenative maintenance. Well the lower radiator hose they replaced fell off and the engine then overheated. He checked it out, and said everything was ok. Now my transmission is slipping and just today my engine RPM across the board dropped about 300 rpm. I have several questions.

1. Would an overheat have any effect on your transmission?
2. What should he have done to verify everything was OK with the engine? He checked the cylinder pressure and verified it drove well?
3. What can cause the RPM drop?

It is a 2001 Mazda Tribute LX V6 with 98000 mile on it. Had no real problems with it before the over heat. Thanks for the help.

Took it to Aamaco this morning to have the transmission looked at. They said it maybe the pringle or something switch in the transmission. This is the circuit board that controls the transmission. It can cause the RPM problems and trouble shifting. Also said there maybe a recall for this by Mazda.

ok, mine 02 tribute sound harsh when the engine is cold and starting from o to 40km/h, but after a while it seem alright and sweet. do not know what is the right way it should be driving, engine oil and trany oil has been changed, but not a transmission flush, put a k and N air filter in, scared to bring the car to dealer or mechanics, they are all not honest, but that is the way they make a living isn't it?
