2001 Tribute - Cant remove key from lock in off - Shift lever related
Hello All,
I am the owner of a 2001 Tribute with 60K+ miles. Recently a problem developed where after shutting off the ignition with the key in the off/lock (all the way to the stop) position, I am unable to get the key out of the ignition. This was intermittant but is now a constant issue. I now realize that it is related to the shift lever (steering column mounted) in the Park position.
When the lever is put into Park, I've noticed that the black square indicator does not appear over the 'P', even though the lever is clearly in the detent. If this is the case the key does not come out. I've found that I need to jiggle the shift lever until I see the square over the P, at that point the key can come out. This is very annoying.
Can anyone tell me what parts may be at vault here? What might the cost be to fix this? Anyone else with this problem?
Any help appreciated!
Peter
