2001 Tribute DX V6 Stalls At Cold Idle
Hello everyone, my girlfriend's 01' Tribute DX V6 stalls in cold weather after the initial startup when the engine is cold from sitting overnight. It doesn't happen when the engine is warm or when the weather is warm. Upon startup the RPM will fluctuate from 600-1000 for about 15 seconds and then die unless you give it gas to keep it above 1000 RPM. I have done a little research and found out it is most likely the Idle Air Control Valve which is a $45.00 part I can install myself. I have also seen that upper and lower intake gaskets can cause this problem. Now when i do a google search for the gaskets I only see a set of them which im assuming is the upper and lower? Are these fairly easy to install myself or would I be better off getting them installed by a mechanic?
These are the gaskets i'm looking at: 2001-2004 Mazda Tribute Intake Manifold Gasket - Felpro MS96124 - OE replacement
This is the IAC i'm looking at: 2001 Mazda Tribute Idle Air Control Valve (part#50523)
Does anyone have any advice before I buy these? Help would be greatly appreciated.

To test your gaskets have someone keep the idle up while you spray starting fluid VERY CAREFULLY around the intake manifold, you can also use propane if you have a hose and nozzle but I dont like this method as much since if there IS a flame it tends to scare you enough that if you use a spray can you automatically stop pressing, propane has to be shut off. If your gasket(s) are bad the idle will rise with the added fuel getting sucked past them.

I'm sorry what is starting fluid? Keep the engine at around 1500RPM while I spray?
