Default 2005 Tribute -- Check Engine Light, P0430 code

Hi,
I have a 2005 Tribute with ~125k miles on it. The other day the check engine light came on, and when I had the codes checked, it came back with "P0430: Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold, Bank 2".

Aside from the CEL being on, the car seems to be running fine -- no acceleration issues, gas mileage is normal, etc.

Does anyone have an idea what this could be and how much it might cost to repair (in NJ)? I get the bad feeling that I'm looking at an expensive fix.

Thanks!

Hi, when I had 2 codes P0172 & P0430 I took off the (-) neg battery lead and AIC valve. I gave the AIC valve a good soak and clean with throttle body cleaner. when it was dry I replaced it, reconnected the battery and let it idle. When I rechecked for codes they had gone. Hope this helps.

Try to reset trouble code...
If you are facing any other codes then just check engine code on net..

The following video is your fix!
The cat will issue a cel when below 95% efficiency approx.
It is dirty, starting to get clogged. Not only will this help clean your cat, but it will clean your O2 sensors.
Put lacquer thinner (not paint thinner) in your gas tank as per video:

and yes i have done it!

Default CAT Issue

Be very careful with advises such as the video above, clogged cats are the number one cause of car fires.
I had the same trouble code in my 2002 tribute. I removed the rear cat , se the picture below. Pay close attention to the little honey comb cells, they were all clogged up, the force the the exhaust craked the honey comb. I replaced the cat . Reset the engine light, issue resolved.

I agree, the above video will not help a really clogged cat or an overheated warped cat where the insides have melted, however, the video is a good first step as it is a lot cheaper than changing.
