Default Cabin Air filter

How hard is it to change the cabin air filter? And where is its location? Under dash or outside ?

Default RE: Cabin Air filter

Replacement is not difficult at all Lucy02. The cabin air filter is located under the right side half of the cowling just in front of the windshield. Start by turning on the wipers and then shutting the key off when wipers are are vertical. this will give you access to one of the screws to be removed. You will notice that just below the windshield there are 8 little round plastic covers in the cowling. With the hood down, remove the four covers on the right side and then the four phillips screws under these plastic covers. Now open the hood and remove the plastic clips attaching the plastic cowling to the sheet metal. The entire right side of the cowling can now be removed. Under this will be a loose plastic cover piece. Remove this as well and you will then be able to see the fresh air opening for the ventilation system. Cabin air filter will fit right inside that rectangle area with the grid in the middle.
Just as an FYI. The Tribute does not come with a cabin air filter iinstalled from the factory but is an option to be installed later.

These are the 4 little plastic covers and phillips screws that need removed with hood down.

With hood open remove these four plastic clips and remove right half of cowling.

The black plastic piece here is not secured and is there to keep water from getting into fresh air intake duct. Pull it straight out towards from of vehicle.

Here is finally the cabin air filter. Older style filters have a rubber seal around outside and newer one do not.
