Default cig lighter

Has anyone had troubles with their cig lighter blowing fuses ? The day I picked up my 05 Tribute
the lighter had issues. The dealer replace the entire unit which worked well for about a year. It then blow a fuse or two and finally the element gave up. I replaced the element with a generic replacement from
a auto parts store. This worked for about two days before it too blow fuses about every other day.

I'm not sure where to start looking for the problem --------- the unit looks to be in good shape
and does not get much of a work out for I am not a heavy smoker and try not to smoke in the car.
It would still be nice to have it working.

Best Regards
Steve

Typically the fuse for the cig lighter is also that of something else in the car as well. Most often it is combined with the radio, I have not checked formyself to see if they are soin the Tribute. Ae you running with the stock head unit or an after market? If it is stock then perhaps its the radio blowing it out maybe from a bad ground or something. If it is an aftermarket stereo then perhaps who ever installed it could have rewired the positive lead and it could also be shorting out... just a couple possiblke ideas. Let us know if the radio goes out as well and if you have stock or after market radio that may lead us to a better solution.

Thanks for the reply. According the manual the lighter is on it's own circuit using a 20 amp fuse.
I see no other electrical items out when fuse is blown. This is a stock head with an aftermarket
element. It blew a few fuses with the oem element as well, before it stopped working.
