Default Clutch and Clutch Pedel

I own a 2006 Mazda Tribute, 2.3L engine, manual transmission. I got it used from Craigslist and it works well but I noticed the clutch pedal would have a little freeplay (about a 1/4 inch) before I start feeling some resistance against it. Also, when I used the clutch stick, it seems a little loose when I change gears. Other vehicles have a more stiffer feel when you change gears.

Is this normal?

You should always have free play in the pedal.

What's the mileage? Common for gear levers & linkages to wear over time.
