I just purchased a 2003 Tribute and love it. I was out showing off my SUV and when I arrived home the door open indicator light would not go off. I think the dome light stays on as well but I can turn it off although it will not come on when door is opened with the switch off. It did not dp this whan I bought it a few houres earlier.

I would suggest slamming all doors shut again, including the hatchback. If that doesn't work. Start at each door and operate the close switch by hand to determine which door is indicating open.

 

If closing the doors hard does not turn off the dash light as mmiller 2002 suggested then you might suspect the rear hatch glass latch switch as being the culprit first. Have replaced several for that problem and have not yet had any problems with the door switch yet.
