Thumbs up EGR Valve

Hi all. mine is a 2004 v6. I am having a problem with my EGR valve. I notice on ebay someone has an EGR valve blanking plate for sale. Is it a complex fitment as with removing the egr valve from the vehicle. Is it just as simple as blocking it off as well as blocking off the vacuum hose at the inlet manifold. Thanks

What is your problem with the EGR valve?

Have you pulled it off and checked it to see if its leaking , more info regarding the symptoms of your issue is needed .

Make up a thin tin plate to block off the EGR temporarily and see if your issue goes away loosen 2 bolts and you can slip/slide it in , normally it'll throw a code if it's playing up as the computer checks the balance/pressure differential .

Hi. It was giving symptoms of a vacuum leak. I replaced the PVC hose as well as the brake booster hose. No change. I inspected the middle hose that went to the egr valve and a solenoid and it was all good as well. All good with that. Symptoms were higher than normal revving when started. When cold would jump to 2300 rpm. when warmed up would jump to 2000 rpm at times. Having said that it would soon come down to the normal level. Also some of the time when warmed up whilst driving when i would take my foot off the throttle to slow down it would give a quick surge forward. I have disconnected and blocked the grommet at the top of the throttle body where it sits. Started her this morning when engine cold and revved to about 1800 rpm and came back down. I went for a drive and all seems smoother. No surge forward when foot lifted off throttle. Changes gears with what appeared to be a slight drag prior, is auto. Car feels overall much better. Much more responsive. Now is it ok to drive around for a few days just to test it with the hose to egr disconnected. I have had her for three years and all the while trying to sort this problem. Have taken it to countless mechanics to no avail. Been scanned on numerous occasions with nothing showing. I have also changed the idle control unit. Thanks for your help with this.

I should have asked do you think i need to block off the hose that goes to the egr etc. I have noticed this morning that the exhaust gasses are a little more on the nose so to speak.

Well i went to go out this afternoon and the good old dash light was on.. Scanned it an said problem with EGR gas not entering inlet manifold, or similar to that. Code P0401. So to my question can i leave the hose off, NO. Hooked it back up and back to how she was. I did a pressure test on the EGR and all good. It appears i missed a dodgy hose somewhere so am off in the morning to get new hose and install it. It seems to me the leak lets all pressure out of the line when it sits for a while causing it to rev high at the startup. And when it is running it sucks air through the crack or leak and that is causing problematic running. Hope this makes sense to you as it does not to me. lol. Will let you all know how it goes. Where would i find the hose size.

It's making some sense , it looks like you might be on top of it , whilst your at it remove and clean the idle air valve as its right next door and also has a lot to do with high/low idle , look up how to clean it on the tube , it's easy .

If there are any other vacuum leak issues one might have to pull the air intake manifold to replace the o-rings/seals (look them up too and it aint that a nasty job) , good luck .

I just hooked a longer hose, so my mouth could reach, onto it where is goes on the air intake. I can actually blow air through it with less force than when i suck through it. I thought i tried this prior but maybe not. I was concentrating on the pvc valve at that point. So it looks like cracks on the hose. Thanks for your interest, will let you know the outcome. I have to pull the manifold off it shortly for spark plugs. I will renew gaskets/seals on it so i know it will be all good.

Ok , if your doing the manifold due to the rear spark plugs , get a new PCV valve if you already have not replaced it (they be cheap enough from the us i think $10 or so ie: the correct price) , it is recommended to replace the pcv by ford somewhere around 100k , its in the service manual , yes i know i typed ford (escape) but they be the same thing .

I assume you been checking out prices over here , WHAT A RIPOFF , try RA over there and delivery can be less that a week .

I found the problem. It was behind a heat/ foam cover on the vacuum line. Any bigger i would have fell into it. I just cut the hose and put a joiner in it and all good.

Thumbs up

I should add i have had it to 3 different mechanics over the 2 and a half years to try and sort it and there response was we cant find anything. Must be how it is meant to be they said. I feel i am still capable of sorting little problems and i reckon thats not bad for a 64 year old.
