Default Mazda Tribute Trouble

Hi, I have a 2005 Mazda Tribute, 4 cyl. Before work last Thursday I stopped for coffee, came out, started her up and the engine started missing. It was raining. My original thought was that it might be a coil. It rained all day and after work I drove home at a top speed of 25mph, that's all she'd do. I know these coils operate poorly in the rain when they're bad. However, we've had 2 dry days and the car is worse. Can't drive it, I'd be lucky to get 15mph out of it. My concern is it may be the Cat converter. I plan to have the codes read on Tuesday. My question is this: How difficult is the converter to replace. I'm pretty handy, I've done brakes, radiators. Is this something the average person can do? Your thoughts and advice are much appreciated. Thanks Dave
