Default Tribute ABS Problems

I have a 2004 Tribute 3.0L with 230,000 miles. Over the past month the ABS system has been intermittently activating when I step on the brakes.
I have checked all of the ABS tone rings for cracks and even cleaned all of the sensors and rings. I did change the left rear sensor that broke when I
had trouble removing it to clean it. The ABS dash light comes on and stays on at times, which causes the ABS not to activate. Recently, it has begun to act up
for often. Today I checked and cleaned all of the ABS fuses and some connectors. While under the hood I noticed a connector with nothing connected to it except
a jumper connector. After doing some research, I found out that it is an ABS diagnostic connector. The jumper in this connector only has two pins.
Does anyone know of a way to use this diagnostic port to read codes out of the ABS system using the flashes from the ABS dash light. I would imagine one of the
terminals would need to be grounded. Can't find any info on this. If it can be done, is there a list of codes. I do not have a obd2 scanner that reads ABS.
Thanks.
