Mazda 2 sport 2004 keyless entry issue
I have a Mazda 2 sport 2004 Hatchback that I absolutely love. Been slowly fixing issue's over the past few years that's developed. However something really annoying I can't quite work out myself is that my keyless entry has decided to stop working completely.
I thought it was my key fob losing power as it was intermittent when it worked & I had to be close to the car. Until the other morning when I tried to unlock the car & nothing. Changed the fob battery & still nothing. I thought maybe its the fob that's decided to die on me. So, I purchased a new one for the same model (I learned from that mistake) & still nothing, but something then struck me. Following the key fob programming routine. Close all doors. Open the drivers door. Put the key in & turn it to ON position, not starting the engine & then off & repeat that 3 times. Leaving the key in, close & open the drivers door 3 times. Normally the car would lock & unlock automatically, but it didn't do anything. I repeated this a few times & still no lock/unlock at the end that should tell me the car is in programming mode.
So, I'm assuming this is an issue with the hardware locking system of some sort. This is beyond my skillset so looking for advice. Is there any way of checking this or resetting it, say removing the battery which tends to reset everything?
Thanks in advance!

Hi, yes all the doors lock & unlock when I use the key in the drivers door & it successfully double locks when turning it counter clockwise twice to lock. The only thing that stopped working is the car not entering programming mode as I previously said & the key fob no longer locking/unlocking the doors. So I'm lost lol
I don't want to take it to a car electrician's who will no doubt charge me for fix's that didn't need fixing as they tend to do with people who don't know better like myself. So if it's a fix I can do at home with some help, I'd rather give that a try first.
Thanks again

Have you got a scan tool mate? This is all handled by the BCM and Theft Deterrent Modules, if there is a code logged then it needs to be addressed, for the home user you can download FORscan which is compatible with Mazda its free but you will need something like a ELM 327 adaptor with Hi-can switch, this will read your modules and any stored codes logged on the BCM, do all the doors lock and unlock when you put the key in the door including boot? reason being if one door doesn't work then a fault will be logged and will interrupt the fob programming procedure, the drivers door is the one you need to monitor as it's part of the fob programming procedure, if the door switch faulty then it wont enter programming mode, when you open the drivers door does the interior light come on instantly and go out when the door is shut?
Could be something simple though like a programming error and reset could fix it, disconnecting the battery negative for a certain amount of time to reset the PCM, but make sure you have radio code to hand if you still using the stock radio, if it doesn't then you need to see what codes are stored.

Hi, thanks for the reply I will try the battery disconnection as soon as it stops raining heavy as it's been raining for a few days now.
As far as I'm aware, al doors lock & unlock with the ability too open. But I will double check this in the morning for sure. But as for the battery, I will check this before buying the tools needed like you've mentioned. I don't think I need a radio head code as I replaced the faulty one for my 2004 sport model with a 2007 Demio one & I didn't need to enter codes or anything. Everything works as far as I'm aware, just the radio signal is a little poor but that's the area I'm in.
Will update when I've performed the battery method. As for the ELM 327 adaptor. I have one in with bluetooth that I connect my phone to using the Torque app. The only error it ever shows is that my catalytic converter isn't operating at maximum efficiency, which I believe is a sensor issue as I've recently had a new one installed. I do clear all fault codes with the app. So I'm assuming that's what you're referring too?
Thanks again!

Yea it's whether torque can access other modules as most if these apps can only see the cars main pcm and only engine related fault codes are shown that's why I suggested FORscan because It will see all your modules especially the BCM / Body Control Module and as it's finding modules it's will highlight any Dtcs present, I use it for my Mazda 3 and wife's Mazda 2, works just fine with Bt elms 327s, though I use a wired Elm 327 500k as I do a lot of programming prefer the wired for stability amd speed.

Anyways, I ran the tool & found a reset feature, so I ran it until completion. Then I tried to put the car into programming mode & it worked & my keyfob now locks, unlocks my car as it previously did
The only issue I have is the new keyfob I purchased that's stated its compatible with the existing 2 button 41803 key fob. However it fails to program at all. I tested my key fob to see if it programmed & it did without issue & responded when I pressed the unlock twice.
It's not a big issue. I just would like an updated key with the fob attached as we get in the newer cars. So I'm at a bit of a loss on this one.
